Dr Wasim Iqbal earned a PhD in Computational Biology from Newcastle University in 2023, where his research focused on advanced data-driven approaches to biological systems. Following his doctorate, he was appointed as a Bioinformatician at Newcastle University, contributing to high-impact research initiatives. He later joined Newcastle City Council as a Data Scientist, where he now plays a key role in the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC).
Dr Iqbal has published and contributed to several machine learning projects, including the NIHR-funded A.I. Multiply and a predictive modelling tool designed to support bioengineering of the planet’s most abundant protein. At HDRC, he is leading efforts to integrate state-of-the-art machine learning tools into public sector decision-making, with the goal of improving the health and wellbeing of Newcastle residents.
