About this speaker

Michael Short is Professor of Control Engineering and Systems Informatics and Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Exchange within the School of Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies at Teesside University in the UK. He is also a visiting Professor at VIT Chennai in India and External Examiner at RGU Aberdeen in the UK. He holds a BEng degree in electronic and electrical engineering (1999, Sunderland) and a PhD degree in AI and Robotics (2003, Sunderland). Michael’s research interests encompass systems engineering, AI and informatics applied to energy systems and robotics. He is investigator on over twenty completed or ongoing funded research and innovation projects in these areas, has authored over 220 reviewed publications in international conferences and journals, and has won eight best paper awards. He is a full member of the IET and IEEE and is also a fellow of the HEA. In 2023 he was named on an independent list as one of the ten most influential persons working in the Net Zero and Digitalisation areas in the UK. In November 2024 was one of four UK academics selected as part of the British Council UK GREAT tour of India, giving talks and workshops on Net Zero and Sustainable Engineering topics to universities and schools.
