AI, Digital Identity & Security
A Talk by Leon Ifayemi (Director of Coalitions and Research, Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology (CFIT))
About this Talk
This conversation will explore the intersection of AI, digital identity, payments and security.
Context and Landscape
- AI + digital identity convergence: AI systems are increasingly reliant on identity data to personalise services. Digital IDs containing foundational data like age, biometrics, and credentials will soon be integrated into digital wallets alongside payment methods.
- Agentic AI systems: These systems act on behalf of users, making decisions based on both foundational identity data and behavioural insights (e.g. search history, purchase patterns). This shift from prompt-based interaction to identity driven automation has the potential to significantly enhance the customer experience, while also raising important questions around trust, transparency, and user control.
- Initiatives like Visa’s work on agentic AI systems or Mastercard’s digital wallet ambitions highlight the pace of change. At the same time, major technology companies and regulatory bodies are playing a central role in shaping how these systems are governed.
